New programmes relevant to the socio-economic development of Nasarawa State and the nation have been introduced in 2016, for instance, the school of post-graduate studies and pre-degree and remedial programmes. Plans are ongoing to introduce faculty of education in the institution. There is an ongoing effort, spearheaded by the Nasarawa State Government, to secure approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for FULafia to introduce a faculty of medicine. To this end, the state government has since donated the famous Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia, to the university to serve as its teaching hospital. The university has successfully graduated two sets of students since its inception.
